The Fight for Freedom, From Exodus to Gaza

Our enemies, like those before them, will be washed away by the floods of history.

Jewish families around the world on Monday, the first night of Passover, sat around their seder tables reading the Haggadah, which tells the story of our people’s Exodus from Egypt. The focus of this high point in the Jewish calendar is the beginning of our history as a free people.

Two conclusions emerge. First, freedom is a gift from heaven—and second, even if the Almighty’s plan is for us to be free, we will always have to fight for it. Each day and in each generation, the Haggadah tells us, we must rise up to defend our people.
